LSAIntroduction
Founded 40 years ago and incorporated in 1972, over the succeeding years LSA International has developed into a leading brand. Based in the British Isles, but with a reach as far as Tokyo, Moscow and New York, LSA now defines what is desirable in style today.

LSA's focus has always been on the imaginative and contemporary with our Creative Director, Monika Lubkowska-Jonas, designing products for eating and drinking and enhancing interiors. While LSA is most famous for their handmade glass, their porcelain tableware is also a key part of their development.

New product collections are launched in January and in the middle of the year and normally appear at retailers by early Spring and Fall.

Over the years LSA has developed a loyal network of retailers worldwide from department stores, design studios to neighborhood gift shops.

Monika Lubkowska-JonasDesign
LSA's principle designer is Monika Lubkowska-Jonas, daughter of one of LSA’s founders, Janusz Lubkowski.

Self taught and with a natural visual flair, Monika thrives in a busy commercial environment, creating over 300 new products each year.

Monika Lubkowska-JonasThe foundation of good design is often a thorough knowledge of production processes and this is key to Monika’s approach. Understanding techniques of handmade glass and porcelain manufacture and creatively developing their potential, Monika is able to design effectively and imaginatively.

The designs Monika creates are marked often by their simplicity and beauty, having a timeless quality. Indeed, many pieces in our range were created some years ago, and a few pieces are over 20 years old!

Monika also has an eye on fashion and works with colors and trends, interpreting them to create designs that have that unique and recognizable LSA feel.

Handmade Glass
Glass is a fascinating material and when made by hand it can be especially organic. At a high temperature glass becomes molten and inherently flexible and can be shaped by pressing or blowing.

The technique of blowing glass has been practiced for about 2000 years.  First developed in what is now the Middle East, the technique spread through the Roman Empire in the early centuries of the first millennium.

Glass production continued to be practiced widely in Europe with notable centers developing their own traditions in Venice, the German states and Bohemia (now the Czech Republic).

In the late Seventeenth century lead crystal was developed in the United Kingdom to much acclaim, while the Nineteenth century saw innovation shift to north America when techniques of mass production using pressing techniques were invented.

The latter part of the Twentieth century saw three significant changes in glass production: the rise of the Studio glass movement in the USA and Europe; the decrease of bulk hand production of glass in the West; and the great strides in developing glass as a technical product.

Handmade glass used in a domestic context continues to strike a balance between the demands of practicality and of beauty. Plain and simple glass for everyday use has its own attraction, while there are many opportunities to develop decorative techniques. These two demands challenge designers today to create products and give users a chance to enjoy the variety that glass has to offer.

LSA is proud to carry on the artistic tradition of handmade glass techniques in their designs.
